The Grande Section Lavande class recently embarked on a captivating journey to the heart of Japan. The children explored Japanese culture through a variety of fun and engaging activities, giving free rein to their creativity and curiosity.
A Festival of Colors and Creativity
Visual arts allowed the students to immerse themselves in the beauty of Japanese nature and culture. They created magnificent cherry blossom trees, symbols of spring and rebirth, using different painting and collage techniques. The delicate cherry blossoms (sakura) were also carefully reproduced, demonstrating the children's fascination with these emblems of Japan. A collective geisha, the result of collaborative work, was created using collages and finger painting, allowing the children to discover traditional Japanese costumes and develop their artistic sense. The erupting volcanoes, with their vibrant colors and imposing shapes, stimulated their imagination and creativity. The children also made their own volcanoes out of Plastiroc (self-hardening modeling clay), reflecting on their construction and structure.
Japanese Flavors and Traditions
Cooking provided another gateway to Japanese culture. The children participated in a sushi-making workshop, discovering the flavors and textures of this iconic dish. They learned to roll makis and assemble nigiris, developing their dexterity and sense of taste.
Science and Erupting Volcanoes
The scientific experiment of the volcanic eruption was a highlight of this project. The children watched with wonder as the chemical reaction brought a miniature volcano to life, thus understanding the mechanisms of this natural phenomenon. This experiment combined scientific learning with fun.
Language, Writing, and Pop Culture
The children also discovered the Japanese language by learning a song and a few common everyday words. They explored Japanese writing by learning to write and translate their first names into Katakana. Finally, they were introduced to Japanese pop culture by discovering the world of manga, stimulating their imagination and curiosity.
A Multidisciplinary and Unforgettable Journey
This project on Japan was a true adventure for the Grande Section Lavande students. They discovered a fascinating culture through art, cooking, science, language, and pop culture, developing their creativity, curiosity, and openness to the world. This multidisciplinary experience will remain etched in their memories as an unforgettable journey to the Land of the Rising Sun.
