Sucessful Pink Day 2022

Article written by Mila, IBS student in 3eme pre-IB On the week of the 17th October, 3eme preIB students volunteered to help and organise numerous activities throughout the whole week to raise money for the association of Sein Victoire. The students were guided by two motivated première students, Evadora and Justine,  who successfully led the operation. Throughout the busy week, volunteers all helped selling packets of candy and badges. The badges were bought by the ones who wanted to show their support on Friday 21st of October towards the numerous women fighting breast cancer. Students were also encouraged to wear pink to represent sensibility and femininity. Lastly, on the Friday, a bake sale was organised. Students who were taking a part in this charity event all baked goods which were sold to the students of IBS. As a result of their hard work over 1500 euros was raised and given to the Sein Victoire association. The students were later given a presentation by representatives of the association to learn more about their organisation. The Sein Victoire association was created in 2002 by Doctor Pierre Opinel with the purpose of improving the care of patients in gynaecology and to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. This goal was later pursued by Dr.Shmitt, who became the president of the association. They organise many events which everyone is welcomed to take part in, the most famous one being the Sein Victoire walk. This 6km walk is a charity event organised for the ones who want to show support towards the women facing breast cancer. It includes many activities throughout the day to entertain and bring everyone together, such as raffles and concerts. The funds raised during this event are reinvested in workshops for the well-being of patients. Those workshops were created with the solemn motive of easing the long and hard battle against breast cancer: “for every patient is a workshop”. The Sein Victoire walk on October 16th 2021 permitted them to buy virtual headsets for patients who seek hypnotic therapy and relaxation, they also offer yoga lessons and makeup workshops. Sein Victoire even had a dancer from the Crazy Horse cabaret organise a dance and self-confidence class which also helped the numerous women going through chemotherapy to regain a sense of feminity. The aim of this association is to help patients with breast cancer from treatment to various workshops during the process of chemotherapy treatment. It also raises funds by organising numerous events and reinvests the money in tools that supports and eases the patient in the transition of the long journey awaiting them. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in a women as 1 women out of 8 are affected. Further on, there is an average of 54,000 cases and 12,000 deaths per year. Which is why Sein Victoire has organised and encouraged women of any age to self-palpate and regularly check themselves. One is also encouraged to use the number Sein Victoire provides if an anomaly in their chest is noticed, the diagnostic is given within a day and often reassures many who had a common scare. Furthermore, women from the age of 50 are advised to have a mammography every 2 years since the risk increases as you get older. This alternative is a reduction of mortality of up to 35%. The International Bilingual School Of Provence encourages its students to continue taking part in projects with the goal of raising awareness in our community towards different important truths and aiding different people by working together and using different resources provided at IBS.
